Job Summary
Lead the review, approval, and administration of public land programs and resources while developing policies, procedures, and automated business processes. Ensure compliance with legislation, service standards, and legislated timelines for Crown land allocation and administration. Provide leadership, coaching, training, and performance management to a multidisciplinary team of legal and technical professionals. Manage unit budgets, resources, recruitment, and succession planning. Prepare briefing materials and advisory notes for senior leadership and the Minister. Engage stakeholders, conduct public disclosure sessions, and build strategic partnerships across ministries, regulators, industry, and municipalities. Resolve complex issues, conflicts, and competing interests while promoting transparent, equitable public land decision-making. Operate Monday through Friday in Edmonton as part of the Lands Operations Division.
Required Qualifications
- A completed four (4) years university degree in natural sciences or a related field, such as Administrative Law, Property Law, Environmental Law, Business Administration, Commerce, or Environmental Sciences
- a background in resource management
- a minimum of six (6) years of directly related management-level experience
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to provide strategic advice, resolve complex issues, and support decision-making
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and build effective partnerships
- Strong presentation and relationship-management skills
- Experience in government, environmental, or resource management
- Knowledge of Alberta legislation, policies, and regulatory processes
- Experience working with government agencies, municipalities, industry, and stakeholder organizations
- Experience leading committees, projects, or cross-ministry initiatives
- The position is based in Edmonton
- Monday – Friday, 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week
