Job Summary
Senior Manager Commodity Management at Abbott leads a global, high-performing team of Buyers and Commodity Managers to develop and execute strategic sourcing, manage supplier relationships, and support new product launches. The role defines and implements commodity strategies aligned with growth and profitability, negotiates and manages complex high-value development and supply contracts, drives cost optimization and risk reduction across the supply base, and leverages SAP and analytics for data-driven decision-making. The position collaborates across Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, and Distribution to optimize end-to-end supply chains, supports M&A with supply-chain risk assessment, leads initiatives such as VMI, Kanban, and supplier portals, ensures FDA/compliance and quality standards, and travels internationally up to 25% to support global operations. Key emphasis is on leadership, strategic sourcing, supplier management, contract negotiations, and cross-functional collaboration to enable scalable, compliant, and cost-efficient supply chains for the Structural Heart business.”,
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain, or related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in materials management, sourcing, or purchasing
- 7+ years of leadership experience managing teams of buyers and commodity managers
- Strong experience in highly regulated environments (medical device or similar preferred)
- Expertise with MRP, DRP, ERP systems (SAP strongly preferred)
- Forecasting and inventory management experience
- Proven success in contract negotiation, supplier management, and global sourcing strategies
- Travel ability (10–25%)
