Job Summary

Senior Machinist and Shop Manager role supporting Axon’s prototyping and manufacturing needs. Split duties (50% Prototype Machinist, 50% Shop Manager) involve creating high-value, low-to-mid-quantity machined parts for prototyping and testing, solving machining challenges, and ensuring correct part fabrication, while also managing shop operations, maintenance, inventory, safety, and vendor coordination. Responsibilities include programming and operating CNC machines (3-axis milling, lathes) with Fusion 360 CAD/CAM (or manual methods), interpreting drawings, developing tooling and workholding solutions, troubleshooting operations, coordinating part fabrication with other Axon shop teams, maintaining an organized and compliant shop (OSHA standards, hazardous waste), training engineers in safe equipment use, outsourcing parts when needed, and documenting standards for a clean, safe, efficient shop. Requirements include 5-7 years in a fast-paced CNC environment with shop-management experience, proficiency in CAD/CAM (Fusion 360 and Creo preferred), ability to read mechanical drawings, problem-solving, basic mechanical engineering knowledge, strong communication skills, and a base salary range of $103,500–$165,600 USD with full benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years background/experience in a dynamic, fast paced CNC machining environment, including shop management and maintenance responsibilities
  • Proficiently work in CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360 and PTC Creo preferred) to produce files for machining
  • Interpret mechanical drawings or other mechanical communication documents
  • Design/fabricate mechanical assemblies as it relates to Axon's product development needs
  • Provide design advice to other members of the team when needed
  • Use analytical and problem-solving skills to develop effective and efficient machining programs
  • Basic mechanical engineering knowledge
  • Assist with other product development tasks including product testing and/or operation of other department equipment as needed
  • Math skills to make engineering calculations where needed
  • Effective oral and written technical communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Adhere to all EHS and safety procedures
  • Pass Axon's mandatory internal ATF training
