Job Summary
Fabricate metal and plastic prototype components using manual mills, lathes, and grinders while independently planning setups, tooling selections, and machining sequences. Execute work orders, inspect finished parts with standard measuring equipment, and troubleshoot issues to maintain high quality standards. Collaborate with engineers on design intent, manufacturability, and quick-turn design changes, providing feedback to support rapid iterations. Lead machine shop enhancement projects, mentor less experienced staff, and assist with reverse engineering parts for modification. Maintain equipment and ensure the shop remains organized and safe.
Required Qualifications

Desired Qualifications
- Technical school, trade school, apprenticeship, or machining certificate
- 3+ years of machining experience
- Strong hands-on experience with manual mills, lathes, saws, grinders, sanders, and general machine shop equipment
- Experience operating ProtoTRAK mills and lathes, especially SX and RX controls
- Strong all-around machining knowledge with the ability to independently plan setups, select tooling, establish machining sequences, and troubleshoot issues
- Ability to machine a variety of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, tool steel, plastics, and other engineering materials
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, models, and verbal instructions
- Strong understanding of tolerances, fits, finishes, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Ability to inspect completed work using standard measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, and pin gauges
- Experience working directly with engineers to provide manufacturability feedback and support rapid design iterations
- Ability to reverse engineer, modify, repair, or improve existing parts and assemblies
- Basic SolidWorks or CAD experience
- Experience in a medical device, regulated manufacturing, R&D, prototype, or product development environment
