Senior Litigation Paralegal

Job Summary

Manage discovery responses, coordinate document preservation, and track litigation milestones for professional liability, elder abuse, and wrongful death claims involving skilled nursing facilities. Collect and review medical records, personnel files, and policies while assisting counsel with interrogatories, subpoenas, and deposition notices. Serve as the primary contact for outside defense counsel and insurance carriers, ensuring reporting deadlines and carrier requirements are met. Evaluate exposure, support internal investigations, and help identify litigation-prevention initiatives. This hybrid role requires independent management of a high volume of active matters and occasional travel to hearings or facility meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of litigation paralegal experience
  • Minimum 3 years supporting healthcare, medical malpractice, professional liability, elder abuse, nursing home, or long-term care litigation matters
  • Strong experience coordinating discovery in complex litigation
  • Experience reviewing and summarizing medical records
  • Knowledge of California civil litigation procedures
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Ability to create, edit, format, track, and manage legal documents, spreadsheets, reports, correspondence, and case-related materials
  • Ability to organize and maintain electronic files, discovery materials, medical records, claim files, and confidential legal documents
  • Ability to independently manage a large volume of active matters
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move files, binders, or office materials weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, by video conference, and in writing

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent experience
  • Experience supporting in-house legal departments
  • Experience with skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, healthcare systems, or healthcare insurers
  • Familiarity with California long-term care regulations and healthcare reimbursement systems
  • Experience using litigation management systems, document repositories, electronic file-sharing platforms, and case tracking tools
  • Comfort learning and using new legal, healthcare, and business software systems as needed
