Job Summary
Senior Litigation Paralegal to support DOJ Environment and Natural Resources Division on Fifth Amendment takings and Rails to Trails cases. Responsibilities include factual/legal research, title and deed analysis, GIS-related data handling, obtaining historical documents/maps, assisting with brief drafting, deposition/trial support, case management, and summarizing research and exhibits. Travel within the United States up to 10%. Must have paralegal certificate and hands-on experience with e-discovery tools, research with LEXIS/Westlaw, and strong technical skills in Excel/Word; ability to manage documents, prepare reports, and coordinate with attorneys and GIS contractors. The role emphasizes preparation for discovery, motions, briefs, and courtroom assistance, with emphasis on organized case files and reliable communication. Salary range: $49,900–$100,000. U.S. citizenship required for DOJ access.
Required Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate required
- Equivalent level of legal training may be substituted with COR approval
- Hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and e-discovery procedures
- At least two years of litigation paralegal experience
- At least one year of experience with automated litigation support
- Experience with Excel, Word, and similar Microsoft software
- Knowledge of federal and state court systems and legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
- Knowledge of standard legal citations (Bluebook) for cite checking
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with document management systems, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems
- Ability to deliver high quality work under deadline pressure
- Excellent organizational skills
- Citizenship requirements for DOJ MBI clearance
