Job Summary
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support their growing business. The role includes leading construction materials testing and special inspections for projects, managing budgets, developing proposals, and communicating effectively with clients and team members. Candidates must have proficiency in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering services, and project management. Strong analytical skills are essential, including experience interpreting soil boring logs and preparing geotechnical engineering reports. This position requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and at least 10 years of relevant experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering
- Experience performing construction materials field and laboratory testing in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, VDOT and USACE Standards
- Experience with interpreting construction materials field and laboratory data
- Project management experience
- Familiarity with heavy civil construction means and methods
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level
- Ability to work independently or as part of a multi-person team
- Attention to detail and well-organized
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in geotechnical consulting in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia
- Experience in geotechnical consulting for Federal clients
- Experience managing or supervising engineering technicians and junior engineers
Additional Requirements
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
