Job Summary
Senior Legal Counsel — Provide legal advice and services on complex interpretations with extensive legal research; train and supervise entry level staff; serve as a hearing officer; draft rules, regulations, laws, and amendments; prepare in-depth legal documents and briefs; conduct legal research for department/agency issues; prepare reports and recommendations; analyze evidence and provide opinions; represent the agency in court; collaborate with other departments; support Office of Child Support Services within the Department of Human Services; 35-hour work week, Mon-Fri, 8:30am-4:00pm; Rhode Island Bar membership required; background screening and E-Verify compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited law school
- Member of the Rhode Island Bar
- Experience in legal services with interpretation of law and application of laws, rules, regulations, policies and decisions
- Ability to train, instruct and supervise entry level legal staff
- Ability to prepare detailed reports and recommendations
- Ability to research and draft rules and regulations with legal effect
- Ability to exercise independent judgement in complex cases
- Ability to serve as a hearing officer
- Ability to interact with other legal staff and state departments
