Job Summary
Senior Legal Counsel at Qantas focused on providing high-quality, solution-oriented legal advice across general commercial, operational and regulatory matters for the Qantas Group. Responsibilities include autonomously negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts aligned with the risk framework; preparing regulatory submissions and advice; coordinating with in-house and external resources; briefing senior executives on risks and recommendations; and maintaining effective relationships with external lawyers and business colleagues. The role requires extensive experience in corporate/commercial law, complex contract drafting and negotiations, strategic commercial advice, and a strong ability to operate in a fast-paced environment while delivering practical guidance across multiple business units.
Required Qualifications
- Law degree with a current Practising Certificate in New South Wales
- A minimum of 10 years PQE as a general commercial lawyer
- Experience in corporate/commercial law including complex contract drafting and negotiating, regulatory matters, privacy, mergers and acquisitions
- Ability to provide legal advice unsupervised and coordinate with in-house and external resources
- Proven ability to interpret legislation and provide strategic commercial advice
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with senior stakeholders
- Ability to manage complex matters and prioritise under tight deadlines
