Job Summary

Senior Legal Counsel for Private Wealth responsible for delivering legal and regulatory advice on products, initiatives, strategies, policies, and developments for BMO Financial Group; provides expert legal guidance, negotiates to achieve business objectives, and advises senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives. Plays a role in designing legal advice strategies, acts as a subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders, resolves moderately complex issues, identifies risks and mitigates them, instructs external counsel, and ensures compliance with internal policies. Requires extensive knowledge of the financial services industry, excellent negotiation and communication skills, and the ability to operate at an enterprise-wide level with global geographic scope. Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in law (LLB or JD) and license to practice law in relevant jurisdiction
  • Typically 7 years of legal practice or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of legal field and regulatory environment in financial services
  • Negotiation skills and ability to advise senior leaders and stakeholders
