Senior Legal Counsel or Associate General Counsel

Job Summary
Senior legal counsel role focused on public markets at AIMCo. Provide end-to-end transactional and regulatory support for capital markets activities (derivatives, securities financing, trading documentation) with leadership on legal workstreams for prime brokerage, margin lending, repo, and related financing structures; draft, review, and negotiate ISDA/CSA/GMRA/MRA and other trading agreements; monitor securities law and global regulatory developments and translate into practical guidance for investment teams; identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across trading/investment activities; collaborate with investment professionals, Compliance, Risk, and Operations; oversee external counsel and budgets; roles based in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta with a hybrid work arrangement.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. or LL.B. from an accredited law school
- Called to the Alberta Bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
- Over 7 years of experience in corporate/securities law
- Meaningful experience with capital markets transactions, trading and derivatives documentation (e.g., ISDA, repo, securities lending)
- In-house experience at an institutional investor, asset manager, or financial institution is an asset
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills for complex transactional documentation
- Ability to translate technical legal concepts into practical, business-oriented advice
- Strong relationship-building and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across time zones
