Job Summary
Lead Engineer for STACKIT Databases in Germany, responsible for shaping the architecture and lifecycle of managed database services (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Redis) within a Kubernetes-based environment. Owns reliability and availability (SRE practices), drives automation of deployment, backup, and patching for a self-service DBaaS model via REST APIs (Golang). Analyzes workloads, optimizes configurations, and plans capacity to scale cloud landscapes; leads the team toward technical excellence, mentoring on database internals, and fostering collaboration across agile, international teams. Requires deep database expertise, cloud and container-native tooling, API development, IaC, and strong communication in German and English.
Required Qualifications
- Profound knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Redis)
- Experience with cloud environments and Kubernetes-based deployments
- Proficiency in Golang or Python
- Experience building APIs (REST, gRPC) to control infrastructure
- Container-native mindset; Kubernetes experience; Operators for database orchestration
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, Ansible)
- Monitoring and observability with Prometheus/Grafana
- Strong analytical and fault-tolerance mindset
- Excellent communication in German and English
