Senior/Lead Backend Java Engineer

Job Summary
Take end-to-end technical ownership of significant backend systems, features, and integrations using Java and the Spring ecosystem. Lead technical design discussions, mentor junior engineers, and conduct code reviews to raise engineering standards across the team. Design and maintain scalable microservices, REST APIs, and database structures while troubleshooting complex production problems and optimizing performance. Effectively use modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation and debugging, critically reviewing generated code for quality. Work directly with product and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into well-designed, scalable technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience

- Improving another engineer's technical capability through mentorship or feedback
- Handling ambiguous requirements and independently determining how to move forward
- Working directly with business or product stakeholders to shape a technical solution
Desired Qualifications
- Experience building or operating high-volume transactional systems
- Experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka, asynchronous processing, or high-volume data pipelines
- Experience with e-commerce, order management, inventory, logistics, payments, or shipping integrations
- Experience with additional API technologies such as SOAP, GraphQL, or gRPC
- Experience with SAP Commerce (Hybris)
- Experience working across web and mobile platform ecosystems
- Experience designing systems for high availability, resilience, and scalability
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and production performance analysis
