On-site · Devens, Massachusetts, United States
Job Summary
Senior Laser Process Engineer responsible for owning and deploying advanced laser marking and traceability cells from hardware integration to production. Duties include installation qualification (IQ) and operational qualification (OQ), optical calibration, and development of robust laser-marking recipes. Lead DOE-driven experimentation, optimize process variables (laser power, pulse width, frequency, scan speed, hatch spacing, focal offset), ensure repeatable processing with tight control of beam parameters, and establish acceptance criteria for marked components. Collaborate with Automation, Robotics, and Software teams to integrate laser marking cells into fully automated production lines; configure PLC handshakes and sensor telemetry for MES/ERP data feeds. Own transfer of validated processes to 24/7 manufacturing, monitor KPIs (OEE, uptime, MTBF; First-Pass Yield; Barcode readability), and author SOPs, maintenance schedules, and operator training frameworks. Qualifications include 5+ years in laser processing, hands-on setup and alignment of industrial laser systems (Fiber/UV/CO2), IQ/OQ/PQ experience, DOE and process characterization, and a technical degree (B.S./M.S.) in a related field. Salary range $106,000-$146,000 with comprehensive benefits; located in Devens, MA.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years hands-on experience in laser material processing, laser marking, or laser micro-machining within a high-volume precision manufacturing environment
- Direct experience setting up, operating, and aligning industrial laser systems (Fiber, UV, or CO2) utilizing galvo scanners, F-theta optics, and beam delivery systems
- Documented track record executing formal IQ/OQ/PQ protocols and utilizing vision inspection or barcode verification systems to gauge edge quality and contrast
- Proven ability to run structured process window characterizations and analyze process capability utilizing statistical software (Minitab, JMP, or equivalent data tools)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a highly related technical discipline
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally across mechanical, electrical, and quality engineering cohorts to drive project milestones
