Job Summary
Senior Java/OpenJDK Migration Engineer leading an Oracle Java removal and OpenJDK migration program for ~20,000 Windows endpoints. Own end-to-end technical execution including project planning, risk management, executive reporting, and coordination with Endpoint Engineering, SCCM, Security, Architecture, Help Desk, and business owners. Responsibilities include inventorying Java installations, validating vendor support, identifying hard-coded references, testing against OpenJDK, partnering with application owners for compatibility validation, and developing removal processes using PowerShell, batch scripting, WMI/CIM, and registry analysis. Lead packaging and deployment of Java removal and OpenJDK distribution with SCCM, and prevent unauthorized reinstallation in collaboration with BeyondTrust. Requires hands-on Oracle Java/JRE/JDK experience, environment-variable troubleshooting, enterprise remediation leadership, and strong stakeholder communication; immediate start for a 6-month contract; fully remote in the US with no sponsorship.
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Java (JRE/JDK) and OpenJDK distributions
- Java version management, JRE vs. JDK requirements, JAVA_HOME, PATH, and environment variable troubleshooting
- Advanced PowerShell, batch scripting, WMI/CIM, and registry modification for automated software discovery and removal
- SCCM packaging and enterprise endpoint deployment at scale
- Application compatibility assessment with vendor engagement
- Experience leading enterprise remediation programs with cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong executive-level reporting and stakeholder communication
- BeyondTrust or similar PAM tool familiarity preferred
- Available for immediate start, willing to commit 100% to 6 months
