Job Summary
Design, modify, and analyze power plant control systems including PLC, DCS, and networked computer networks. Investigate and troubleshoot electrical controls issues for pumps, valves, turbines, and reactors while preparing functional specifications and detailed calculations for scaling and setpoints. Conduct critical digital asset cyber assessments, review vendor documents, and perform independent design documentation reviews. Lead client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope, mentor junior engineers, and guide teams in automating workflows using modern tools and AI to reduce rework.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Seven or more years of experience in the design engineering of instrumentation and controls systems in a project team environment for commercial, industrial applications, with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for modifications to existing nuclear power plants
- Selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and the preparation of design packages, calculations, and specifications
- Experience with controls system design including applications for low and medium voltage distribution systems and controls for equipment such as turbines, pumps, feedwater controls, and data displays
- Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute systems design
- Experience in reviewing design documentation
Desired Qualifications
- PE license is preferred
- Experience in leading others who use modern tools
- Experience in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Directing automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked
- Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows
