Job Summary
Design, modify, and analyze instrumentation and control systems for new and existing nuclear power plants, including PLCs, DCS, and digital asset cyber assessments. Investigate and solve electrical controls engineering issues for pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and turbines while preparing detailed calculations and equipment purchase specifications. Conduct client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope, perform independent reviews of design documentation, and mentor less experienced engineers. Lead teams in automating engineering workflows using modern tools and AI to improve design efficiency. Work within a project team environment with a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remote.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Five or more years of experience in I&C Design Engineering
- Experience with the selection of equipment, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembly of design packages, calculations, and specifications
- Experience with controls system design including applications for equipment such as turbines, pumps, feedwater controls, and data displays
- Experience in reviewing design documentation
- Experience in serving as the firm's client liaison in a support or lead engineering role
- Must be able to work in a hybrid arrangement (three days in office, two days remote)
- Must be able to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools
- Must be willing or able to oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
Desired Qualifications
- PE license
- Minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields
- Experience directing automation and process-improvement work
- Experience generating design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used
