Job Summary
Lead design, modification, and analysis of instrumentation and control systems for new and existing nuclear power plants, focusing on digital systems development including PLCs, DCS, and network switches. Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve electrical controls engineering issues ranging from mechatronics for pumps and turbines to critical digital asset cyber assessments. Prepare detailed calculations for scaling and setpoints, interface with vendors for equipment specifications, and conduct client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope. Perform independent reviews of design documentation and calculations, while mentoring less experienced engineers and leading teams to automate workflows using modern tools like Python and AI.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Five or more years of experience in I&C Design Engineering
- Experience with the selection of equipment, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembly of design packages, calculations, and specifications
- Experience with controls system design including applications for equipment such as turbines, pumps, feedwater controls, and data displays
- Experience in reviewing design documentation
- Must be able to work onsite at the Duane Arnold Energy Center
- Must be able to work in a hybrid work arrangement (three days a week in the office, two days remotely)
Desired Qualifications
- PE license
- Experience leading others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI
- Experience directing automation and process-improvement work
- Experience overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields
