Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Forward Deployed)

Job Summary
Partner with defence contractors and military personnel to develop comprehensive deployment strategies and document approaches based on security assessments. Travel to customer sites to participate in requirements gathering, software deployment, testing, and hands-on support for Linux-based containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes. Build and manage secure, mission-critical infrastructure in both cloud-hosted and on-premise networks while diagnosing complex technical issues. Provide regular status updates on system health metrics and customize deployments to meet unique operational needs. Ensure all environments comply with strict government security standards and champion best practices across the platform.
Required Qualifications
- Eligible for Government of Canada Top Secret security clearance
- Minimum of 7+ years of software deployment and infrastructure experience, preferably in defence or related industry
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
- A minimum of 3+ years of experience with Linux server deployment and administration
- Demonstrated experience deploying and securing production-level systems in government or enterprise environments
- Demonstrated experience leading customer-facing technical discovery sessions, including requirements gathering, solution scoping, and value-driven conversations that build customer trust and accelerate adoption
- Strong knowledge of Linux server deployment, networking, logging, and troubleshooting tools (e.g., ssh, tcpdump, iproute2)
- Expertise with Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift, and hypervisors (e.g., KVM, VMware ESXi)
- Experience packaging, templating, and deploying applications with Helm charts for Kubernetes/OpenShift
- In-depth understanding of TLS, HTTP/2-3, and PKI integration
- Familiarity with enterprise hardware (servers, racks, storage) and production-level systems
- Working knowledge of identity and access management standards and protocols (e.g., OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SAML) and their role in securing deployed services
- Knowledge of supply chain security, government compliance standards, and authentication/authorization mechanisms
- Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across development teams and with customer stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deployment initiatives simultaneously
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and drive efficient resolution
- Must be able to travel up to 30% (domestic and international)
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with software systems used by defence organizations such as SitaWare HQ, TAK, Esri AllSource, and others
- Experience deploying and maintaining Web-based applications
- Experience deploying and monitoring machine learning models in cloud-hosted and on-premise networks
- Experience configuring or integrating enterprise identity providers such as Active Directory, LDAP, and Keycloak
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tooling for repeatable deployments
- Proficiency in scripting for automation (e.g., Bash, Python)
- Prior experience working with or for defence, public safety, law enforcement, and national security organizations
