Job Summary
Draft and manage contracts to protect Deriv while enabling deals, making judgment calls when standard provisions fail. Own high-risk legal matters with unclear precedents, deciding litigation strategy and managing external counsel on novel fintech questions. Create scalable policies for contract governance and regulatory compliance, proactively updating frameworks as global regulations evolve. Advise on cross-border issues including GDPR and licensing, then partner with engineers to build AI tools for automation. Translate complex legal requirements into practical guidance for business and product teams, collaborating with senior stakeholders to drive commercially viable outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- qualified legal professional
- 6+ years in corporate legal
- experience owning complex matters
- experience providing legal advice when the safe answer was 'no' but the business needed 'how'
- understanding of fintech law in practice
- knowledge of how regulations work when technology moves faster than legislation
- comfort with AI and automation
- ability to use AI tools already or willingness to learn to automate legal processes
- ability to assess risk without killing momentum
- commercially pragmatic mindset
- ability to help business make informed decisions with sound judgment and accountability
- ability to explain legal complexity in plain language
- ability to translate legal requirements into guidance that engineers, product managers, and executives can actually use
- strong English communication
- multi-jurisdictional experience advising global organizations
- demonstrated strong stakeholder management skills
- ability to influence senior decision-makers
- ability to balance competing priorities
- based in the Cayman Islands
