Senior Hardware Engineer- Optical

Job Summary

Define specifications, evaluate performance, qualify, and integrate passive and active optical components and subsystems for next-generation DWDM optical transport solutions. Design and develop electronic circuits for laser and photodetector control, implement analog and digital algorithms, and provide PCB layout guidance. Perform hands-on laboratory testing, characterization, and validation of optical systems, developing automation tools for data acquisition and performance analysis. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including optical, electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing disciplines to drive technical solutions balancing performance, reliability, and cost. Create engineering documentation, reports, and test procedures while participating in design reviews and root-cause analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • MS degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Experience in optical communications
  • Experience in test and measurement systems
  • Experience in hardware development
  • Experience in mixed-signal electronics
  • Experience in photonics or related technologies
  • Understanding of optical communication systems and optical networking technologies
  • Experience with test equipment and laboratory measurement techniques
  • Knowledge of analog and digital electronics
  • Experience with mixed-signal circuit design and debugging
  • Familiarity with laser and photodetector control systems
  • Ability to analyze technical data and solve complex engineering problems
  • Experience with Visual Basic
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel automation
  • Experience with LabVIEW
  • Experience with C++
  • Experience with test automation and data acquisition software development

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with DWDM transmission systems
  • Knowledge of ROADMs, wavelength-selective switching technologies, and optical amplifiers
  • Familiarity with analog servo-loop control systems
  • Experience supporting products through the complete development lifecycle from concept through production
  • Knowledge of optical component reliability and qualification requirements
  • Familiarity with industry standards including: Telcordia IEC ITU
  • Experience working with external vendors and technology suppliers
