Senior Hardware Engineer (Digital Design & FPGA Development)

Job Summary
Own the entire design process from requirements through schematic capture, layout guidance, prototyping, validation, and production support for digital board designs and FPGA development. Use lab test equipment to validate and troubleshoot hardware, collaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability and resolve production issues. Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including schematics, layout notes, BOMs, and FPGA code, while driving continuous improvement in design methodologies and tools. Actively participate in peer design reviews to ensure quality and serve as a technical mentor to junior engineers, setting an example for engineering rigor. Work closely with software, mechanical, and systems teams to ensure product integration and performance in our advanced electronic warfare and secure communications equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in hardware design, with a focus on digital systems
- Proven experience designing and validating complex digital boards (e.g., microcontrollers, FPGAs, SoCs, DDR, power supplies, digital interfaces such as USB)
- Strong understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, and high-speed design techniques
- Proficient at VHDL or Verilog for FPGA development and simulation
- History of development using Intel (Altera) or Xilinx FPGAs
- Experience with EDA tools (e.g., OrCAD, Altium) and FPGA toolchains (e.g., Intel Quartus, Xilinx Vivado)
- Strong troubleshooting skills using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies
- Familiarity with revision control and PLM tools (e.g., Git, PDXpert, Arena, Agile)
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including hardware, software, and systems engineers, to develop cutting-edge products
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
- Effective cross-functional communication skills, including engagement with customers, business development teams, project managers, manufacturing engineers, and field support personnel
- Eligible to receive a security clearance
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- This position requires eligibility to obtain a Top Secret / TS/SCI clearance
- Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require
