Job Summary
Develop block diagrams and schematics from the initial concept phase for pluggable optical transceiver modules in metro, core, and data center applications. Specify, design, test, integrate, and release new optical transceiver products to production while creating Hardware Unit Design Specifications and test plans. Design solutions utilizing bare-die components and advanced microelectronic assembly techniques, including wire bonding and flip-chip technologies, and collaborate with FPGA, firmware, and test engineering teams during product integration and validation. Perform signal integrity analysis and high-speed simulations using industry-standard tools, then support products through manufacturing transfer and production release activities. Provide engineering support for products in production and work directly with contract manufacturing partners to meet performance, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
Required Qualifications
- BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience in high-speed board design
- Strong fundamentals in electromagnetic and RF design, including impedance matching and S-parameter analysis
- Experience with high-speed RF measurements and characterization techniques
- Experience with fiber optic testing and measurements
- Experience using laboratory equipment including: Spectrum Analyzers Network Analyzers Logic Analyzers Function Generators BER Test Sets
- Proficiency with schematic capture tools such as Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Xpedition, or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Approximately 10% travel
- 5% domestic travel
- 5% international travel
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience using Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, HyperLynx, or similar EM/SI simulation tools
- Experience designing optical transceivers or coherent pluggable optical modules
- Knowledge of optical component reliability requirements and telecommunications standards, including Telcordia, IEC, and ITU
- Experience with coherent optical systems
- Programming experience using Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW for automation and test development
- Knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity analysis techniques
