Job Summary
Conduct transmission system planning and analysis, including load flow, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies to support ISO/RTO and utility clients. Prepare new generator interconnection applications by developing conceptual single line diagrams, verifying reactive power compliance, and creating steady-state, dynamic, and short circuit models. Review ISO feasibility and system impact studies to provide guidance to interconnection customers. Lead teams in applying modern tools and automation to improve workflows and deliver cost-effective designs. This remote/virtual position is based anywhere within the United States.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Sufficient industry experience in lieu of an advanced degree
- A minimum of 5 years relevant power systems engineering experience
- Experience in load flow and contingency analysis
- Experience using transmission planning software for load flow modeling, contingency analysis, and stability analysis using PSS/E, PSLF, TARA
- Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping
- Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD
- Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE or ASPEN
- Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE
- Experience in Python, Java Script, or other scripting languages
- Willingness or ability to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI
- Leadership in directing automation and process-improvement work
- Oversight of engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in stability analysis to identify critical clearing times, identify voltage constraints and analyze power system damping
- Experience in electromagnetic transient analysis using PSCAD
- Experience in short circuit analysis and using software programs CAPE or ASPEN
- Knowledge of power regions and ISOs/RTOs, such as: PJM, MISO, NYISO, ERCOT, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ISO-NE
- Experience in Python, Java Script, or other scripting languages
- A minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows
