Job Summary

Lead geotechnical technical efforts on medium to large projects by performing and overseeing engineering analyses for soft soil, foundation design, ground improvement, and earthquake engineering. Direct junior staff on field activities including drilling, laboratory testing, and construction observations, while reviewing their work and mentoring on subgrade and deep foundation installation. Prepare geotechnical reports for design and construction across transportation, commercial, municipal, power, and water projects, and build relationships with clients and subcontractors to drive technically excellent recommendations. Execute geotechnical field investigations and utilize specialized software for slope stability and pile analysis. Requires a Master's degree in civil or geological engineering, 12+ years of consulting experience, and a PE license.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in civil (geotechnical) or geological engineering
  • Minimum of 12 years of consulting experience in the geotechnical field
  • PE or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong analytical skills in areas including: Engineering for soft soil conditions, Shallow and deep foundation design, Ground improvement techniques, Earthquake engineering, Rock mechanics
  • Experience with drilling oversight and soil and rock classification
  • Experience with construction oversight
  • Subgrade observations, observation of backfill and compaction, deep foundation installation
  • Experience with executing geotechnical field investigations
  • Experience with and strong abilities with technical writing of geotechnical investigation reports
  • Proficiency in software including Slope/W or SLIDE, SHAFT, LPILE, APILE, Settle3
  • Experience with geotechnical engineering analyses without the use of geotechnical software
  • Knowledge of the following software, as a minimum: Microsoft Office, gINT/BoreDM, Slide/SlopeW, L-Pile, Group, GRL WEAP, Settle 3D

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience on alternative delivery projects in Utah
  • Experience with proposal writing, scope, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Familiarity or exposure to project management
  • Experience with geologic conditions and hazards in Utah and surrounding States as well as national geology and geologic hazards
