Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Job Summary
Lead and manage geotechnical input on large-scale civil infrastructure projects including highways, motorways, rail, active travel schemes, and drainage works. Prepare and review geotechnical design calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings while undertaking ground investigation scoping, design, supervision, and interpretation. Provide technical mentorship to junior staff within the geotechnical team and collaborate with civil, structural, and environmental engineering teams. Liaise with project stakeholders, clients, and contractors during design and construction phases to ensure all geotechnical design work is delivered to the highest quality and safety standards in accordance with Eurocodes and Irish/UK standards. This role supports the delivery of multidisciplinary design projects for both public and private sector clients across Ireland as part of Egis Engineering's commitment to Project Ireland 2040.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
- Master's degree
- Minimum 10 years' post-graduate experience in geotechnical design engineering
- Proven experience working on large civil infrastructure projects within a busy consultancy environment
- Strong experience in the design and analysis of earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, and ground improvement techniques
- Proficient in geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, WALLAP, Settle3, etc.)
- Chartership (CEng or approaching Chartered status) with Engineers Ireland or equivalent
- Excellent communication and report writing skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams on TII, Irish Rail or NTA-led projects
- Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design workflows
- Project management and client-facing experience
