Job Summary

Senior Geotechnical Engineer responsible for advising the technical team on geotechnical risk mitigation for development and longhole stoping, educating the operations workforce on geotechnical risk identification, and improving communication of geotechnical items through engineering prints and meetings. Lead and mentor the engineering group through performance reviews, training, and guidance, contribute to mine planning, reconcile actual vs predicted slope stability, address geotechnical issues in the ground control logbook, review other engineering prints for risk/hazards, design rehabilitation programs using Deswik, participate in planning meetings and pre-site inspections to provide geotechnical input, advise on risk considerations and mitigation measures, and assist in geotechnical hazard identification training and workforce communication. Requires a B.S. in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent), Professional Engineer in Canada, minimum 5 years in rock mechanics or underground mining, and supervisory experience; familiarity with Deswik, Map3D, RS2, and Unwedge is an asset.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent
  • Be a registered Professional Engineer in a Canadian jurisdiction
  • Have a minimum of 5 years working in rock mechanics or at an underground mining operation
  • Have previous experience in a supervisory role
  • Familiarity with Deswik, Map3D, RS2 and Unwedge would be considered an asset
