Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Job Summary

Oversee comprehensive subsurface investigations, including drilling and managing CPT/geophysical data, for federal, state, municipal, and privately owned dams across the western US. Plan and execute complex field exploration programs, material characterization, and laboratory testing while conducting geotechnical analyses for seepage, slope stability, and settlement. Prepare engineering reports, present technical findings to regulators and clients, and review junior staff calculations and designs. Conduct dam safety inspections and construction oversight to ensure conformance with specifications, applying strict QA/QC standards. Requires a PE license, 6+ years of dam experience, and valid U.S. driver's license; includes up to 2-3 weeks of out-of-state travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering or a related field
  • 6+ years of related experience with dams
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Valid U.S Driver's License
  • Willingness to travel for fieldwork out of state for periods up to 2-3 weeks depending on the assignment
  • Relocation may be available for this role

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Civil Engineering
  • 10 years or more of experience with relevant dam experience
  • Experience in dam investigations, and design and evaluation (e.g., material characterization, liquefaction, seepage, slope stability, deformation, and settlement analyses)
  • Experience with 100% design-level reporting and issue for construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience leading tasks with effective delegation skills
