Job Summary
Conduct root cause analyses on complex mechanical failures in global vessel fleets, translating operational load calculations into design-level insights and structural solutions. Independently validate stress distributions, fatigue behavior, and force balances for gearboxes, propulsion systems, and power transmission components. Act as technical authority with OEMs and suppliers to prevent recurrence through engineering improvements rather than temporary repairs. Contribute to fleet-wide reliability initiatives and collaborate with engineering teams, maintenance specialists, and vessel management. Master's in Mechanical Engineering and 10+ years in heavy mechanical engineering required. Permanent contract based in Antwerp, Belgium.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (civil engineer)
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in heavy mechanical engineering, heavy industry, or a comparable technical environment
- Proven expertise in mechanical power transmission systems
- Strong understanding of technical ecosystems like auxiliary systems and their influence on the performance and reliability of mechanical systems
- End-to-end mindset: while driven by strong theoretical knowledge, the candidate is motivated to see solutions implemented and validated in practice
- Analytical mindset with a strong reliance on calculations, physics, and engineering fundamentals rather than assumptions
- Ability to operate independently at expert level and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders
- Fluent in English
