Job Summary
Lead Shopify frontend development for a portfolio of eCommerce storefronts using React, TypeScript, and Shopify Hydrogen; serve as AOA's Shopify technical lead, set standards, review work, and own CI/CD for themes and apps. Build production-grade storefronts, migrate Shopify projects, translate Figma designs into reusable components, integrate REST/GraphQL APIs, and ensure accessibility, performance, and reliability. Collaborate across multiple client projects with designers, product leads, backend engineers, and client-facing teammates; leverage AI coding tools while maintaining strong engineering judgment. Location: Remote in Latin America; Engagement: Contract (independent contractor); Schedule overlaps with US Central Time.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years building production frontend applications with deep React and TypeScript expertise
- 4+ years building and owning Shopify experience across classic and headless builds
- Prior experience in an agency environment and as an independent contractor with ability to manage multiple clients/projects
- Strong experience in Liquid theme development (Online Store 2.0), Shopify apps, Checkout Extensions, store configuration, and migrations
- Experience as the senior technical authority on Shopify: setting standards, reviewing, and owning CI/CD/version control for themes/apps
- Ability to translate product requirements into actionable engineering tasks and deliver end-to-end storefront features
- Strong frontend fundamentals: semantic HTML, modern CSS, responsive design, accessibility
- Experience translating Figma designs into accurate, responsive, accessible interfaces
- Experience integrating REST or GraphQL APIs (Storefront API or similar) and managing client/server state (e.g., cart)
- Typed, tested code and self-review before QA; ability to estimate work and deliver within cycles
- Excellent professional English with reliable overlap with US Central Time hours
- Fluent use of AI coding tools as part of engineering workflow
- Based in Latin America and able to work as an independent contractor
