Senior Field Service Technician (Transformers)

Job Summary

Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair power and distribution transformers while identifying and fixing oil leaks. Replace gaskets, seals, radiators, and bushings, and conduct internal inspections including load tap changer maintenance. Operate vacuum dehydration and oil processing systems for filtration, reclamation, and assembly, ensuring compliance with NETA ATS and MTS standards. Support commissioning, preventive maintenance, and outage response while maintaining accurate service documentation in PowerDB. Travel up to 80% across Canada and USA, working extended hours and on-call rotations. Requires a valid driver's license and physical capability to lift 34 kg in industrial environments.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of related transformer field service experience
  • Strong knowledge of transformer maintenance practices and oil processing
  • Proven experience performing internal inspections and repairs of transformers
  • Experience with vacuum filling, oil handling, and transformer assembly
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment
  • NETA Certification (Level II–IV) or equivalent Canadian experience/ability to obtain certification
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (MS Excel, email, reporting tools)
  • PowerDB experience
  • Valid Canadian driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances (e.g., background check, site access)
  • Valid passport
  • TWIC card
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing (where permitted by law and job site requirements)
  • Must be physically capable of lifting up to 34 kg (75 lbs), climbing, crawling, and working in industrial environments
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment medical/fit-for-duty assessment
  • Field-based role requiring travel to client sites across Canada & USA up to 80%
  • Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and on-call rotations, including weekends/holidays as needed

  • Post-secondary technical training preferred (Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Red Seal Electrician, Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, Motor Winder, or related trade/technical background considered an asset)
