Job Summary

Conduct leak detection on the MWRA Distribution System using correlators, sonic apparatus, and other field equipment. Open manholes and valve boxes to inspect for deficiencies, connect pressure recorders and gauges, and operate hydrants and manual air valves as needed. Mark leak locations and assist contract crews in pinpointing issues, while performing pitot-type flow tests for meter-checking programs. Install hydraulic monitoring instrumentation, collect sketches with distance ties, and enter maintenance data into MAXIMO software. Prepare written reports including surveys, progress updates, and leak site documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic reading, writing, mathematical and oral communication skills as normally attained through a high school education or equivalent
  • Associate's degree in civil engineering or related field
  • At least two (2) years of waterworks or underground utility construction experience preferably in water distribution systems
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License
  • Water Treatment Operator Grade 1 License or Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 License, or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, and drawings
  • Working knowledge of personal computers, mobile devices, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat pdf editing
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations and write accurate reports
  • Knowledge of general pipeline construction
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
  • Close vision, distance and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Being able to distinguish between varying tones and frequencies
  • Ability to work in outside weather conditions
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts
  • Ability to be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration
  • Ability to occasionally work in precarious places
  • Ability to be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
  • Ability to work in very loud field settings

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in civil engineering or related field
