Job Summary
Senior Estimator responsible for taking-off elements and coding them into the project database, evaluating subcontractor and vendor pricing, identifying deficiencies in RFx/SOW/drawings and mitigating them, developing quantity-based and EPC estimates from sketches, plots and P&IDs, coordinating trades for complete project evaluation, ensuring traceability of estimates to defining documents and bid tabs, preparing bridging documents to reflect historical cost changes, participating in estimate/proposal/constructability reviews, organizing estimates to meet project needs, estimating required craft labor, equipment, subcontracts, materials, and facilities, developing preliminary lifting plans and selecting appropriate equipment, contributing to a detailed resource-loaded schedule, understanding project cash flow, developing risk analyses and contingencies, and performing other duties as required. Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), 7+ years of experience in estimation/cost monitoring, strong communication and mathematical skills, and proficiency with MS Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint; experience with Sage estimating, MS Project or Primavera, and bid-walk attendance are advantageous. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of degree
- 7+ years of field and/or office experience including a minimum of 4 years’ experience as an Estimator, Field Engineer or other related support role involved with estimating or cost monitoring
- Familiar with construction work and terminology
- Thorough attention to detail
- Ability to quickly visualize the finished product from the RFx, deliverables, SOW, drawings and other documents provided
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects and capable of working independently
- Good basic mathematical comprehension
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to make clear and concise presentations to management
- Strong understanding of the operating process at facilities being estimated such as refineries, terminals, power plants, mining or other heavy industrial facilities
- Solid technical skills with an understanding of the various classifications of estimates and the purpose that they are intended for
- Self-motivated enthusiastic team player willing to work/mentor with others and adopt new ideas and methods
- Good computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; familiarity with Sage estimating, MS Project or Primavera and databases will be an advantage
- Ability to attend Bid Walks, collecting all pertinent information and data in order to organize, kick off and monitor proposal and estimate development through submittal
- This position may require occasional travel and extended workdays
