Job Summary
Develop comprehensive project estimates by reviewing plans, specifications, and bid documents to assess constructability and material requirements. Prepare quantity takeoffs and pricing through self-perform production or unit price estimating, then initiate subcontractor solicitations to analyze bonding capabilities and prior performance. Compare competitive bids, review quotes with the project management team, and prepare bid packages adhering to multiple delivery systems. Initiate post-bid buyouts and participate in meet-and-greet presentations with suppliers. Comprehend contract requirements for diversity compliance and coordinate with the Lead Estimator on complex bids. Work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment, requiring some travel for regional bidding.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of experience
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred
- Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs and engineering principles
- Able to work independently without much supervision and work well with a team
- Engages and coordinates with Lead Estimator on the bid
- Understands Costs and Market Conditions
- Takes accountability for delivering on commitments
- Identifies and understands differences in subcontractor quotations
- Looks to continually improve and grow
- Accurately estimates time required to complete actions and activities
- Accurately interprets written information associated with projects
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced computer skills with estimating software
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced, changing environment
- Some travel is required for projects that are bidding in different regions
Desired Qualifications
- Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred
