Job Summary
Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, and client documentation to prepare accurate, detail-oriented estimates for complex structural steel projects. Collaborate with fabrication, purchasing, and pre-construction teams to build thorough bids, including take-offs of steel materials, shop labor, field erection, and equipment costs. Enter all data into the in-house computer program, type estimates, and track change orders while adhering to Schuff estimating guidelines. Work directly with Sales and Pre-construction to understand project scope, timelines, and deadlines. Discuss alternative recommendations with management to meet client needs and summarize results with appropriate leaders. Requires 7–10 years of experience estimating structural steel construction projects and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and Windows 7.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- at least 10 years related experience estimating and bidding on structural steel and heavy plate projects
- BS Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Civil/Structural Engineering or Business
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projects
- Proven experience as a construction or steel estimator
