Job Summary
Manage key relationships with GCs and owners while assessing daily RFP risks and selecting appropriate jobs for bid. Lead the estimating team to build customer relationships, maintain bookings against profit expectations, and ensure all outgoing proposals meet design specifications. Create a consistent estimating process across departments, review take-offs and pricing prior to submission, and validate accuracy against specs. Perform turnover with project teams, follow post-mortem reviews, and ensure high-quality bid invites are received. Work with sales and service to track project bids and develop owner-direct and high-end user work opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in a construction estimating role
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings
- Ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort
- Ability to prepare complex proposals with minimum of supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with ability to speak clearly and persuasively
- Demonstrated group presentation skills, phone and e-mail etiquette
- Ability to use significant independent judgment
- Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills
- In-depth knowledge of estimating software with strong proficiency and/or the ability to learn, understand, and train others
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
- Organizational, supervisory, and decision making/problem solving skills
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
Desired Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in a construction estimating role, mechanical - preferred
- Previous experience with formal estimating software system - preferred
- Experience performing design build work and value engineering in a past employment role
- Experience in commercial mechanical construction - preferred
