Senior Environmental Test Engineer

Job Summary
Lead planning and delivery of complex trials and test programmes for advanced defence and missile systems, owning end-to-end activities from test plan development through result analysis and technical reporting. Conduct hands-on environmental, qualification, and in-service testing using specialist equipment including climatic chambers, vibration, shock, acoustic, and blast facilities to validate product performance. Prepare, integrate, and validate missiles and associated equipment for ground and flight trials while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and suppliers to support critical UK and international defence projects. This role requires full-time onsite work in Belfast with flexibility for extensive international travel, overtime, and occasional out-of-hours testing to meet operational deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in an Engineering, Scientific, or Mathematical discipline
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel as required
- Hands-on experience in instrumentation, signal conditioning, and data acquisition systems
- Ability to configure, operate and troubleshoot test equipment
- Capability in data analysis, interpreting complex test results and using analysis tools to provide clear, evidence-based recommendations and conclusions
- Strong numerical, analytical and technical reporting skills
- Experience producing high-quality test procedures, reports and documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, for data processing, analysis and presentation of results
- Practical mechanical and electrical workshop skills
- Ability to support the setup, integration and maintenance of test and trial equipment
- Ability to work autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams
- Initiative, creativity and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Positive mindset and commitment to continuous learning
- Security Clearance (SC) - currently held or ability to undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment
- Residence in the UK for the last 5 years (or minimum of 3 years' residence in the UK over the last 5 years in some circumstances)
Desired Qualifications
- Proven practical experience in environmental testing, including vibration, climatic, acoustic and stress testing within a laboratory, development or qualification environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of instrument calibration processes, ensuring the accuracy, reliability and compliance of test equipment and measurement systems
- Acquired membership of a relevant professional engineering institution
- Commitment to working towards professional registration and continuous professional development
