Job Summary
Manage customer needs and technical requirements for US Navy HM&E systems, identifying priorities and conflicts to optimize solutions. Design waste management and Pollution Prevention Afloat equipment while advising engineering teams on design decisions and sustainment strategies. Lead projects through the systems engineering process to generate and review requirements, generate design specifications, and optimize development and test plans. Provide system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis for shipboard issues using specialized diagnostic equipment, ensuring adherence to Navy and DoD standards. Mentor junior engineers, lead technical exchange meetings, and create technical documentation including manuals and training materials. Collaborate with stakeholders across geographically distributed teams to deliver quality products and services to the fleet.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related scientific discipline
- 20 years of experience in engineering experience in environmental systems for US Navy applications
- Experience working with NAVSEA, NSWCPD, and NSWCCD
- Engineering and design skills in shipboard waste management systems
- Waste Incinerators
- Waste Shredders
- Pulpers
- Plastic Waste Processors
- Compactors
- P2A Equipment
- Afloat HAZMAT Control and Stowage Equipment
- Ability to work with software applications to aid in design and analysis
- Organization skills, tracking various efforts, tasks, and people progressing on project activities
- Ability to understand priorities and anticipate project risks and needs
- Effective time management skills
- Ability to identify risks to deadlines and communicate plans to avoid / mitigate risks and deliver on time
- Ability to collaborate on a large, geographically distributed, cross functional team
- Ability to work independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of process definition and frameworks (such as ISO, CMMI, etc.)
- Familiarity with collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, ClearQuest
- Familiarity with software such as AutoDesk / AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Visio
- Active government security clearance or the ability to obtain security clearance
- Ability to go up and down shipboard stairways (ladders)
- Ability to handle light materials, boxes, or equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Master's Degree in business or engineering
- Familiarity with PLCs
