Job Summary
Senior Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer I NSW role at AECOM Sydney’s Geotechnical Engineering and Tunnelling Team. Role involves a mix of on-site fieldwork and technical office-based work, with significant field components including planning and execution of geotechnical investigations across varied sites and opportunities for travel. Responsibilities include desktop studies, data review, interpretation, development of technical documentation, planning and undertaking geotechnical site investigations (drilling supervision, sampling, in-situ testing), soil profiling and rock core logging per AS 1726:2017, coordinating laboratory testing programs, preparing factual and interpretive reports, and assisting with geotechnical analyses for foundations, slope stability, pavement designs, earthworks, and other structures. Involved in bids and proposals, scope development, and preliminary cost estimation. Requires on-site experience and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, with potential for hybrid/remote flexibility. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or geological equivalent
- 2-10 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
- Willingness to undertake regular fieldwork and travel
- Demonstrated competency in scoping, planning, and managing geotechnical investigations
- Familiarity with software such as OpenGround / gINT, Rocscience, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, with working knowledge of Leapfrog or similar geotechnical modelling software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Current Class C driver’s licence
