Senior Engineer - Substation Protection & Control

Job Summary

Provide technical leadership on protection, control, and metering systems for high-voltage substations, guiding designs from conceptual planning through construction and commissioning. Develop and review protection planning documents, one-lines, schematics, and wiring diagrams while performing coordination studies and relay settings for utility transmission systems. Lead engineering design reviews, factory acceptance testing, and field inspections, then support construction, outage planning, and commissioning activities. Act as a technical point of contact for clients and partners, mentoring junior engineers while contributing to continuous improvement of P&C standards. Collaborate with the Business Development team on proposals and estimates.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–15 years of utility-focused protection, control, and metering engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Eligibility for (or current) Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada (U.S. PE considered an asset)
  • Strong experience in P&C detailed design drawings and substation protection philosophy development
  • Experience performing protection coordination studies and relay settings for high-voltage transmission systems
  • Hands-on experience with relay software such as ASPEN, CAPE, EasyPower, SKM, and relay platforms from SEL and GE
  • Practical knowledge of substation construction, commissioning, and outage planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience on EPC projects
  • Familiarity with utility maintenance and operational practices
