Job Summary
Senior Software Engineer to lead frontend UI/UX and backend API development for the Starter Kit platform, working across React and Go to deliver scalable, fault-tolerant features for the Scoop Publishing Platform used by NYTimes newsrooms. Collaborate with Product and Design teams to translate requirements into engineering tickets, write, test, debug, and deploy code, build components and systems, and mentor colleagues through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews. Role emphasizes delivering a strong developer experience, maintaining security and quality practices, and contributing to a mission-driven engineering culture that supports journalistic independence.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience
- Experience with React, GraphQL, AWS or GCP, and CI/CD
- Full stack software development experience with frontend expertise
- Knowledge of software principles, architecture, data structures, coding conventions, testing frameworks and security best practices
- Experience collaborating with partners and other engineering teams
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with backend technologies and building APIs in languages such as Go, Python, or Java
- Experience building software tools on top of existing platforms
- Ability to collaborate with Product and Design partners to translate requirements into engineering tickets
- Strong frontend and backend skill set with full stack experience
- Go, Python, Java experience (preferred)
- Experience with React, GraphQL, AWS or GCP, and CI/CD
- Experience leading and mentoring colleagues through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews
