Job Summary

Lead the development and refinement of Reactor Pressure Vessel internals designs, ensuring solutions are technically robust, manufacturable, and aligned with programme milestones. Produce and approve drawings and specifications to enable early supplier engagement and long-lead material procurement while collaborating with manufacturing partners to embed design-for-manufacture principles. Provide technical leadership by mentoring engineers and managing multiple work packages within an integrated programme, balancing delivery against schedule and cost considerations. Resolve emerging design challenges and maintain alignment with regulatory and quality standards across disciplines. Requires a degree in relevant engineering with Chartered status and proven experience in component mechanical design within a regulated industry. Salary range £50,650 - £66,500 with hybrid working options across Derby, Warrington, and Manchester.

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Chartered status achieved or in progress
  • Proven experience in component mechanical design
  • Experience within a complex or regulated industry such as nuclear, defence, or aerospace
  • Strong capability in producing and reviewing engineering drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools (e.g. Siemens NX, Inventor)
  • Understanding of design-for-manufacture principles
  • Experience collaborating with suppliers or manufacturing partners
  • Familiarity with industry standards (such as ASME or GD&T)
  • Knowledge of the engineering lifecycle from concept through to in-service support
  • Confidence in leading technical discussions
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams
  • A proactive, adaptable approach
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems
  • Regular collaboration across Derby, Warrington, and Manchester offices
  • Engagement with suppliers and partners as required
  • Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
  • Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check
