Job Summary
Design and develop new products while identifying and qualifying new materials, preparing the team for growth into Manager-Materials Development. Communicate with engineers, executives, and customers to explain decisions, propose actions, and understand needs. Prepare project plans including test protocols to verify target performance and generate reports. Partner with suppliers to meet objectives and develop their skills. Stay abreast of new developments through trade contacts, industry meetings, and academic research. Train and mentor junior colleagues to develop expertise and achieve project objectives. Oversee junior engineers and technologists to ensure timely delivery of high-quality results. Work in a multidisciplinary team to optimize the product outcome. Requires 15+ years of experience with 3+ years in a lead or supervisory capacity. Expert knowledge in fiber reinforced composites, elastomer formulation, or epoxy processing is essential.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of how material selection, design, and processing are part of the whole and not separate disciplines
- Expert knowledge in one or more of the following areas: fiber reinforced composites; elastomer formulation and processing (especially silicone and EPDM rubbers); epoxy formulation and pressure-gel processing
- Willingness and aptitude to expand technical expertise in those areas where knowledge gaps exist
- Knowledge of environmental testing procedures (e.g. UV, flame retardance) and how to select material systems to achieve targets for environmental resistance
- 15+ years' experience, including 3+ years in which they acted in a lead or supervisory capacity (not necessarily formal line responsibility)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience of applying nanotechnology for enhancement of polymer properties is a plus
