Job Summary
Senior Engineer, Naval Architecture responsible for naval architecture assignments on new construction and repair projects, including requirements decomposition, design preparation, analysis, material specification, engineering execution, and close-out. Plays a mentorship/oversight role for junior engineers and subcontractors; develops/reviews design documents for fisheries, icebreaking, and naval replenishment vessels to achieve regulatory approvals. Performs trade studies to identify cost-effective solutions within material budgets; develops material specifications and bills of material aligned with Seaspan strategies and customer requirements; represents Seaspan in industry engagements to support FFR initiatives. Requires bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, 10+ years in the field, and a Professional Engineer designation in BC; on-site at North Vancouver with a relocation package available. Skills include stability, weight, seakeeping, resistance, powering, and structural design, with familiarity of ShipConstructor and ACAD, MS Office, and documentation practices; strong analytical, writing, and communication abilities; willingness to travel as needed; focus on safety and compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture is required
- 10 or more years of post-secondary experience working in Naval Architecture and Structural Design
- Professional Engineering designation in the Province of British Columbia
- Previous shipyard experience would be an asset
