Job Summary
Senior Engineer, Manufacturing Equipment Engineering at WD leads as the technical expert for HGA manufacturing equipment and processes to maximize uptime, stability, and throughput. Responsibilities include hardware enhancements, process-control strategy development, preventative and predictive maintenance models to minimize downtime, and collaboration with automation/software teams to refine machine interfaces and real-time monitoring. Manages root-cause analysis (8D, DMAIC, Fishbone) for equipment issues, analyzes defect data to relate parameters to product quality, and leads cross-functional equipment upgrade projects (IQ/OQ/PQ) from conception to production. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, 2+ years in manufacturing/automation, proficiency with control systems/PLC (Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen Bradley), programming (Python, C++, MATLAB/Simulink), SPC/FMEA/DOE/Six Sigma, IIoT/sensor integration, SQL/NoSQL, and data visualization tools (Spotfire/Tableau/PowerBI). Preferred experience in high-precision electronics manufacturing (HDD/HGA), robotics (ROS 2), computer vision, and predictive maintenance, plus a proactive continuous improvement mindset (Kaizen).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing process engineering, equipment maintenance, or automation systems
- Strong knowledge of Control Systems and PLC logic (Beckhoff, Siemens, or Allen Bradley)
- Programming in Python, C++, or MATLAB/Simulink
- Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and failure analysis methodologies (DOE, FMEA, or Six Sigma)
- Hands-on experience with Industrial IoT (IIoT), sensor integration, or machine-to-cloud data pipelines
- Data visualization tools (Spotfire, Tableau, or PowerBI)
- Ability to manage databases (SQL/NoSQL)
