Job Summary
Senior Engineer I-Physical Design responsible for implementing physical design activities for Microchip’s Microcontroller and Wireless Business Units, including floor planning, placement optimization, clock tree synthesis, routing, crosstalk avoidance, EMIR, and physical verification. Work on place-and-route methodologies and low power methodologies, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve timing closure and QoR, perform die size estimation, bond-out approval, and interface with external vendors/IP sources. Emphasis on flow development, automation, and delivering physically verified designs with robust debugging and communication across international teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
- 5+ years of relevant physical design experience
- Strong understanding of VLSI and related concepts
- Understand logic synthesis and timing concepts (setup, hold, uncertainty)
- Scripting skills in TCL and Python (Python preferred)
- Basic design knowledge of RTL (VHDL/VERILOG)
- Able to work independently under local project lead/supervisor mentorship
- Excellent debugging and analytical skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
