Job Summary
Senior Engineer – HVAC at Metro-North Railroad responsible for managing and maintaining Grand Central Terminal infrastructure with a focus on building automation and HVAC systems. Oversees mechanical activities, leads long-term planning, and ensures safety, efficiency, and improved customer experience. Manages labor, materials, and equipment for building automation and HVAC maintenance; coordinates with Building Management System (BMS) technicians, vent cleaners, HVAC mechanics and machinists; evaluates and optimizes BMS performance; supports testing, programming, and commissioning; maintains and upgrades BMS; coordinates upgrade/repair plans with internal departments and external contractors; enforces safety policies; assists in budget preparation and equipment planning; develops staff, manages performance, and fosters professional growth; requires strong knowledge of electrical/mechanical diagrams, BMS, BACnet, and VFDs; ability to read blueprints and perform field design; on-call availability 24/7; valid driver’s license; degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering; minimum five years in building operations and/or construction; minimum three years managing diverse workforce; pursuing unionized workforce experience preferred
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
- Minimum five (5) years of experience managing building operations and/or construction activities
- Minimum three (3) years of experience managing a diverse workforce and/or projects
- Experience managing a unionized workforce
- Valid Driver’s license
- Must become roadway worker within six (6) months of hire
- Knowledge of BACnet, BMS Design and building automation-based products
- Knowledge of Grand Central Terminal building automation and HVAC mechanical infrastructure
- Ability to commission variable frequency drives (VFD)
- Strong project management, forecasting and coordination skills
- Strong leadership abilities and team development
- Safety rules and regulations knowledge
- MS Office Suite knowledge
- Reading blueprints and schematics
- Material take-offs and field design work
