Job Summary
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Solar Turbines at Caterpillar. Responsible for designing, developing, and implementing gas turbine hardware and components, performing mechanical design work for rotating and static turbine assemblies, conducting root cause analysis, leading technical design reviews, and ensuring solutions meet performance, manufacturability, durability, maintainability, and cost targets. Requires experience with gas turbine design fundamentals, secondary cooling flow systems, ANSYS FEA, Creo or related CAD, and strong communication skills. This onsite role in San Diego, CA involves cross-functional collaboration, possible component rig or engine test leadership, and alignment with DevOps-planned deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related degree
- Directly applicable Mechanical Design work experience
- Gas turbine design and analysis experience
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS) software to perform detailed modal and structural analysis
- Experience with reviewing and checking engineering drawings
- Technical report writing experience
- Experience with preparing and leading technical Design Reviews
