Job Summary
Design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for embedded systems and IoT devices, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept to post-launch. Implement communication protocols including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, cellular, LoRaWAN, MQTT, CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART while collaborating with hardware engineers on board bring-up, debugging, and system validation. Ensure device security, manage firmware updates, and maintain technical documentation and test plans. Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and risk assessments to drive continuous improvement. This role serves as the critical link across hardware, firmware, and cloud-connected platforms for our next-generation connected device solutions.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems, firmware development, or IoT engineering
- Proficiency in C, C++, and Python
- Solid experience with bare-metal development, RTOS, and embedded Linux (BSP, device drivers, kernel configuration)
- Deep familiarity with wireless and wired stacks (BLE, Wi-Fi, MQTT, cellular, LoRaWAN, Zigbee, CAN, SPI, I2C, UART)
- Experience with AWS IoT fleet management, observability tooling (OpenTelemetry), and automated testing/deployment via CI/CD pipelines (GitLab Runners)
- Comfortable using debugging tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to run root-cause analysis on complex physical/digital issues
- Remote opportunity, with preference given to candidates in the greater Chicago area, FL, or GA
Desired Qualifications
- A Bachelor's or Advanced degree in EE, CE, CS, or a related field is preferred (or equivalent practical experience)
