Job Summary
Lead Electrical design, manufacture, and test/commissioning for VNS projects, including precision positioning controls, machinery controls, safety circuits, and LV/ELV systems. Collaborate with internal and external engineering staff to produce schematics, hook-ups, and documentation using Trimble, PAScal, and SEE Electrical. Develop and apply expertise in programmable logic controllers, motion controls, and distributed I/O while leading hazard analysis, risk assessment, design reviews, and system verification. Maintain engineering drawings and contribute to VNS procedure development, ensuring compliance with British, European, and international standards. Support physical commissioning and in-house testing activities. This role requires a degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering, Engineering Council registration, and the ability to work reliably with minimal supervision at the Abingdon office.
Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of a CAD system (preferably SEE Electrical)
- Ability to produce Electrical detail drawings to required specifications/standards
- Background in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering, or demonstrable engineering lead experience
- Engineering Council registration and membership of a relevant professional body
- Competence in at least two of the following areas: Electrical Design, Electrical cubicle/rack design, Precision motion control using servo/stepper motors and actuators, Safety circuits, Low Voltage systems, Programmable logic controllers, Distributed I/O, Technical document writing
- Ability to work reliably with a minimum amount of supervision
- Must be available to work at the Abingdon office at least 3 days per week (2 days working remotely)
- Candidates must have the right to work in the UK
Desired Qualifications
- Experience leading Engineering, manufacturing and support staff
- Developing creative, innovative and adaptive designs for a variety of clients in the Nuclear Industry
- Experience with technologies such as programmable logic controllers, motion controls, distributed I/O and instrumentation
- Experience using Electrical CAD software such as Trimble (Amtech), PAScal and SEE Electrical
- Experience leading hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises
- Experience leading design reviews, system verification and validation
- Knowledge of Project Management/Engineering
- Experience working within a QA system
- Excellent communicator
- Experience in precision positioning controls for Remote Handling systems
- Experience with machinery controls and LV/ELV systems
